About the Downtown Timmins BIA

The Downtown Timmins Business Improvement Area (DTBIA) represents businesses and commercial property owners within the downtown core. The Board of Management provides leadership and strategic direction to enhance the economic vitality, beautification, marketing, and overall success of Downtown Timmins.

Board Members represent the interests of the entire BIA membership—not individual businesses—and work collaboratively to support initiatives that benefit the downtown business community.

Board Member Responsibilities

As a Board Member, you will:

· Provide strategic direction for the Downtown Timmins BIA.

· Represent the interests of all BIA members.

· Attend and actively participate in Board meetings.

· Serve on committees as required.

· Assist with long-term planning and decision-making.

· Review financial information and approve budgets.

· Promote Downtown Timmins and advocate for its business community.

· Maintain confidentiality where appropriate.

· Declare and avoid conflicts of interest.

Board Members should expect to:

Attend approximately 9 monthly meetings. Meetings typically 60 to 90 minutes.

Participate in committee meetings as required. 

Attend selected BIA events and community functions.

Respond to occasional emails and Board communications between meetings.

Board Members are expected to:

Come prepared for meetings.

Participate respectfully in discussions.

Support Board decisions after they are made.

Act ethically and professionally.

Avoid conflicts between personal business interests and Board responsibilities.

Act as ambassadors for Downtown Timmins.

Who Can Run?

Under the Municipal Act, directors are selected by BIA members and appointed by the municipality. BIA Board members must be property or business owners or authorized a property or business owner.

Be a Downtown Timmins BIA member (property owner or business tenant paying the BIA levy), or

Be a shareholder, director, or employee authorized in writing by a BIA member to serve.

Be at least 18 years of age.

Not be bankrupt.

Be legally capable of managing their own affairs.

Submit a completed Nomination Form before the nomination deadline.

Compensation

Board Members serve on a volunteer basis and receive no remuneration for serving as Directors. Reasonable expenses incurred while representing the BIA may be reimbursed with Board approval.
